Q01: I'm trying to Drag & Drop measurements from the PAK DataViewer and it doesn't work. What's wrong?
A01: Well typically an inappropriate measurement directory was set in the PAK2Mat preferences (found in the menubar). Please specify the measurement directory by either trying your luck with the "Derive from System Variables" or specify manually. Specify the directory in which the PAK measurement project directory is found when using 3 Levels in PAK or in which the PAK test directory is found. Please look at the tutorial.

Q02: Are there any benefits at all to choose and generate an ATFX file in PAK instead of adding a header file?
A02: Typically not as you duplicate files, however, in the PAK DataViewer\Extra's\Options you can better control what is put in the atfx file while generating. In circumstances where you want to convert only part of a measurement into the Matlab object this approach is better than adding the header file. Adding a header file will make PAK2Mat convert the complete measurement into Matlab always. We therefore recommend this option when processing very large measurements into Matlab.

Q03: What's the limit on PAK Measurement size when converting to Matlab?
A03: Well such boundary can be found easily if you have a 32bit PAK2Mat installation. Please install the 64bit version first. Yet for the 64bit version, practical boundaries will be found as well. As an example throughput is stored (after adding a header file) in 32bit data blocks. In Matlab they end up as 64bit double precision values. Effectively the data size therefore doubled in the .mat file. Processing the objects in Matlab will therefore pose a problem on very large measurements. Even if PAK2Mat is able to convert the very large measurement into an .mat file, using it in Matlab will become very time consuming. Let this story show you how PAK is actually a mighty tool in handling large measurements. Please first process as much as possible in PAK and then convert to Matlab to do additional calculations. Control the amount of data using the answer to question 02 as well. Alternatively reduce you measurement size by: 1) splitting the measurement in "time" sections during a PAK post-process or 2) split the channels into multiple measurements with the PAK post-process. Doing so poses more work in PAK but will make processing in Matlab much quicker and the time spend might be made up for easily.



Q04: What operating system should I best use?
A04: Windows 7 or 8 best in 64bit mode. As data becomes large (>1Gb+) quite easily using a 64bit operating systems is very important. A 32bit installation might not even be able to handle measurement with a size of 500Mb in total. We therefore strongly recomment a 64bit computer and installtion.

Q05: Do I need the Matlab Runtime Compiler (7.11 or 2009a) even if I already have a different Matlab installation?
A05: Yes you do as PAK2Mat explicitly calls for this version. You can install multiple Matlab (runtime compiler versions) without problems though.

Q06: Do I really need to reboot my computer after I installed the Matlab Runtime Compiler?
A06: Yes you do as a PAK2Mat can't find the runtime otherwise. You get a message stating mclmcrrt711.dll could not be found.

Q07: Can I install both 32 and 64 bit version of PAK2Mat on my computer?
A07: Why would you want to do so? We prohibit this from happening and strongly recommend to install the 64bit version on Windows 64bit operating systems.

Q08: I'm the company system administrator and would like to make sure all users have the same default settings in File\Preferences in the PAK2Mat menu bar?
A08: In the InstallationDirectory\PAK2Matlab 2.0\src\ you will find and "defaultsettings.xml" file. This file contains all the option settings in PAK2Mat and can be changed to comply with company settings.

Q09: I obtained the a fixed or floating PAK License but do not see the P2M icon in the PAK main window?
A09: Did you already install the PAK2Mat software? PAK2Mat comes with an additional software installer and needs to be installed as well. 



Q10: Can I use PAK2Mat with a dongle licence in coorperation with a normal PAK installation.
A10: Yes you can and vice versa as well: Once you start PAK2Mat from PAK you can also Drag & Drop measurements from PAK Tunes and / or Windows Explorer.

Q11: Why does PAK2Mat stop functioning, using a PAK Licence, once PAK is closed?
A11: The PAK2Mat licence is managed from PAK itself and therefore is no longer available after closing the parent program (PAK).



Q12: Can I Drag & Drop measurement directories into PAK2Mat from the Windows Explorer?
A112 Yes you can as long as PAK2Mat can find an .atfx file directly in the chosen directories. Lower level directories are not searched.

Q13: Can / Should I put my Matlab converted .mat files in the same directory as my PAK measurements?
A13: Well in theory you can surely put the files there, but in special cases PAK Software might not like it... In the file structure the optional lower level "additional" is meant for files not generated in PAK. Please choose File\Preferences in the PAK2Mat menu bar and set the appropriate checkbox.

Q14: Why is there an option to open an atfx file in the PAK2Mat menubar?
A14: Well we guess there might be some classic / nostalgic minded users that fancy this feature? Personally we think the Drag & Drop is much more efficient ;-)

Q15: Can I Drag & Drop new files to be processed while a conversion session is still ongoing?
A15: Yes you can! They will add to the end of the queue and will be processed after the current conversion session ended. 

Q16: What does the "Verbose mode" mean in the PAK2Mat preferences?
A16: This option lets you see what measurement data types are found and processed during the Matlab conversion. In can be convenient with larger measurement that take up a lot of time or simply just be cool ;-)

Q17: What does the "Store additinal binaries" mean in the PAK2Mat preferences?
A17: Sometimes you might add photos to your test candidate description? These are embedded in the PAK measurements and can also be converted into (for example) bmp files. The conversion of Photos is set with this option only.

Q18: Can I switch between the "Console" and "Queue List" window during a conversion session?
A18: Yes you can. Whereas the Console shows you details on the conversion process, the Queue list shows you the job list which is more convenient when many files are added.

Q19: What's the limit of number of measurements that can be dragged into PAK2Mat?
A19: Are you challenging us? Please feel free to try and let us know if you reached a limit ;-)

Q20: Will PAK2Mat convert my very old (say >4 year) measurements as well?
A20: Well, we can't guarantee as data format was different a long time ago. Most often you can update the data format within PAK though and after such a successful event, PAK2Mat should not experience any problem. To update the data format right click on the measurement in the PAK DataViewer and choose Administration\UpdateDataFormat. 

Q21: After PAK2Mat conversion I find my geometry information missing?
A21: Geometry information is only included in ASAM ODS conformity level 5.2 and upwards. Please check your Matlab object "description" for the ASAM version of your Matlab object: asam30 upwards will include the geometry information. asam29 doesn't. In PAK navigate to DataViewer\Extra's\Options and set conformity level to ASAM ODS 5.2 in the "Generate ATF" tab. Now generate an ATF file by right mouse click on a measurement choosing "Generate ATF". Convert the resulting header and check again your Matlab object. It should now have asam30 listed and your geometry included.
